Police in Niger State said two men are in their custody for illegal possession of nine single barrel guns, a locally made pistol and 125 cartridges.
Wasiu Abiodun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and spokesperson for the state police command said in a statement that the suspects, whose identities were not disclosed, were arrested at about 3.pm on Thursday, November 26, while trying to board a commercial vehicle in Ibbi.
He said the suspects, who hail from Anguwan Danyaki village in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of the state, had confessed upon interrogation, to have the arms from an unnamed arms dealer at Babana village, New Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
Wasiu said the police are on the trail of the gunrunner and all the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
According to him, 10 other suspects were also arrested in different parts of the state for various offences including alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearm and receiving stolen property.
