Connected Development (CODE), a Non-Governmental Organisation, has trained no fewer than 35 youths in Enugu State on project implementation and budget monitoring, its coordinator for the Southeast zone, Daniel Ugwu, said in a statement on Monday in Enugu.

Ugwu, who noted that the training was organised for members of the Enugu State ‘Follow-The-Money’ initiative and Action-Aid activists, explained that it was meant to equip the participants with the necessary tools to inspire change in their communities.

He said it was necessary to equip the youths with relevant information to become advocates for good governance and accountability. “The essence of the training is to enhance youth capacity in influencing effective public service delivery by equipping them with necessary information and resources to participate in development processes. Some of the key areas the participants were trained, include Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, report writing, advocacy and policy influencing strategies and data mining”.

While emphasizing that the training was part of CODE’s effort to achieve its mission of improving access to information and empower members of local communities, he said the Follow-The-Money initiative was aimed at promoting open government and effective service delivery as well as tracking government and international aid spending in health, education and environment.
