An attempt by six suspected bandits who emerged in a village in Niger State to purchase bulk bricks of recharge cards for their mobile phones triggered an alarm which resulted in the death, Scudnews reports.
The incident occurred at about 9am on Tuesday, April 27.
A witness said suspected bandits believed to be among the gangsters holding the state by the jugular, had went to Warari village in Rijau Local Government Area of the state to purchase recharge cards worth N20, 000, raising suspicion in the process.
The source further their request for direction to a recharge vendor where they could get as much as required raised suspicion and blew the cover, as an alarm raised by the locals attracted the Yan Sakai, a vigilante group in the area who promptly arrived the scene and lynched the suspected bandits.
Police said a patrol team deployed in the area evacuated the corpses to the General Hospital, Tungan Magajiya, where they were deposited for autopsy as investigation progresses.
