A total of 86 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants engaged in illegal operations in Lagos State were sealed up in 2020, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said on Wednesday.
The agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Paul Osu, said in a statement that the cooking gas plants were shut for non-compliance with international safety standards.
He added that the plants were also operating without prerequisite approval or license from the regulatory agency, while some were sited under high tension electrical installations and other unapproved locations.
Osu clarified that the crackdown on illegal cooking gas plants was to curtail incidents of gas explosion and fire incidents in Lagos State.
He assured that the DPR will sustain the clamp down illegal gas plants and public sensitization on the need for safe usage and distribution of gas.
