A nine-year-old boy jumped off a three-storey building at the Isale-Eko, Lagos Island area of Lagos State on Tuesday in a bid to escape vicious flogging by his aunt.
The boy was rushed to the Lagos Island Maternity General Hospital for treatment after he was rescued by neighbours.
A rights group, Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) has taken up the case.
A witness who alerted ACVPN on the incident, said the boy’s aunt had beaten him for over four hours, even as neighbours pleaded with her to show him mercy.
The child, crying and screaming, threatened to jump off the balcony if he got no reprieve before eventually taking a plunge, landing on his chest.https://scudnewsng.com
Thereafter, reports said the aunt disappeared, leaving neighbours to rush the child to the hospital.
Policemen at the Family Support Unit of Adeniji Adele Police Station have launched an investigation into the incident.
Ebenezer Omejalile, Co-founder, ACVPN, said: “I have spoken with the survivor at Adeniji Adele Police Station.
“He said it was his mother’s elder sister that was beating him before he jumped from the third floor of the building.
“I was at a programme when I was informed about the case by the Head of FSU Adeniji Adele Police Station. I quickly went to the station with the boy.”
