A gang of heavily armed suspected kidnappers got a shocker when they stormed a home in Plateau State, Nigeria, shooting sporadically in a bid to seize a middle-aged man but got crippled by their target who proved to be a real-life hero.

Mr. Sunday Dahip showed he had what it required going against the odds as he fended off his assailants using a catapult in a hail of bullets.

The seven man gang had invaded his residence at Gyer, opposite the Federal College of Education, FCE, Pankshin, Plateau State, in the wee hours of Sunday, December 10, on a mission to abduct him but got more than what they had bargained for.

While the gunmen shot intermittently to scare residents of the area, they made a frantic effort to break into the home of Dahip, who under the cover of darkness maimed a member of the gang with a catapult from a strategic location in the house in an uncommon display of bravery.

Unknown to him, a neighbour, Mr. Christopher Tyoden had made a distress call alerting the Pankshin police divisional headquarters on the sound of gunshots in the area and attempts to break into Dahip’s home.  In a jiffy, the divisional police officer, DPO, responded swiftly and arrived the crime scene with a team of operatives.

Realising he was safe from danger, Dahip came out to narrate his near fatal encounter to the police. That was when it was discovered that one of the gunmen was hit and incapacitated by the slingshots he fired while the six others fled in disarray as the police approached the scene.

It was like a case of the hunter becoming the hunted as the police arrested the wounded gang member identified as Zingak James who was writhing in pain on the ground and took him to General Hospital, Pankshin for treatment before taking him into custody.

The police said James, who hails from Wulmi in Pankshin Local Government Area of the State, is assisting in an ongoing investigation on the crime and efforts at arresting other members of the gang.
