Oldest Man In Ondo Community Commits Suicide

An Octogenarian, Joseph Oloruntoba Adeloye, has reportedly killed himself in circumstances under investigation by the police.

Adeloye, aged 87, was said to have committed suicide at about 10pm on Sunday, May 5 in his residence on No. 3, Oluwatedo Street, Ugbe Quarters, Ipe, Akoko, Ondo State.

A resident of the community who simply gave his name as Banji told a Scudnews correspondent that the deceased was the oldest man in the community.

A son of late octogenarian, Mr. Sunday Adeloye, who lived with him, reported the bizarre incident to the police at Issua Division of the Ondo State police command at about 3pm on Monday, May 6.

It could however not be ascertained if he gave a clue to the police on what propelled the old man to hang himself to death with a rope inside his room.

“His son told us the father committed suicide in his room by hanging himself with a rope but that he reported the incident at the station a day after it occurred because traditional rites that had to be performed”, a source told Scudnews.

The police said it has launched an investigation into the incident as a team of detectives visited the scene to examine the body and obtain vital clues.
