The bodies of six policemen who were among about 20 operatives said to be missing last week while on a mission to rescue some persons abducted by a gang of heavily armed kidnappers  have been recovered by the police.
Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of Police Force Intelligence Bureau FIB-IRT and mobile policemen attached to the No. 51 Squadron of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, Oghara, Delta State, had in a joint operation, stormed a forest at Bentsiga Buplesi Community, Agadama, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State on a rescue mission.
However, the policemen were reportedly attacked by the kidnappers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in an ambush during which two of them lost their lives while three others were wounded and others missing.
The six policemen whose bodies were recovered between Sunday, March 3 and Monday, March 4th, are suspected to have been killed by the Fulani herdsmen.
Scudnews learnt that among the six bodies recovered and identified by their uniforms and other features were four mobile policemen and an operative of the FIB-IRT whose name was given as Inspector Abe Olubunmi.
As of the time of filing this report, sources said the identity of the sixth slain policeman had not been ascertained, but the bodies of four mobile policemen attached to 51 PMF, Oghara were identified.
They are Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Akpan Aniete, Sergeant Ejemito Friday and Sergeant Kuden Elisha.
Mr. Bright Edafe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command could not be reached at press time, but a senior police officer who requested anonymity confirmed the development.
He said the recovered bodies have been deposited in the morgue at Ughelli General Hospital for autopsy while efforts have been intensified to arrest the perpetrators of the act.
