Benue Holds Dialogue to End Youth Protest

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has at the People’s house in Makurdi, the State Capital, applauded Benue youth in their orderly conduct devoid of acrimony during the just concluded peaceful demonstration in their quest to Endsars in the country.
Governor Ortom made this known during a presidential stakeholders dialogue held in  Makurdi, aimed at finding ways of ending youths restiveness and calming frayed  nerves with a view to addressing issues raised by the protesters.
He commended their resilience and patience, adding that their agitation for enhanced living condition is long overdue as he craved for understanding promising that efforts are being intensified towards addressing their peculiarities.
The governor however, noted that “soon we shall organize a youth summit in the state whereby each party would be at liberty to dialogue on critical issues towards finding amicable solution to their common interest.
He called for a national confab where ethnic nationalities would have an opportunity to request for equitable distribution of resources of the country.
In his contribution, former Governor and Minister of intergovernmental affairs,Senator George Akume, Observed that the issue of convocation of confab is belated.
He noted that during the immediate past administration, several attempts were made to hold the national confab but it didn’t yield result because appointees from South-South were outnumbered, compared to other geopolitical zones in the country.
In his words, President Buhari  has done so much for the Youths, one of which is traders’ funds; as well as funds drawn from Bank of industry for onward loans to the Youths amongst others.
Senator Akume, consequently enjoined the Youths to exercise restraints as efforts are in motion to address their grievances and Sue for peace to reign in the land.
In his opinion, 2nd republic minister of Power and steel development, Chief Paul Unongo , urged Federal government as matter of urgency to look into the the demands and address the issue once and for all.
The elder statesman further observed with disaffection that the Youths were for so long neglected in the scheme of things stressing something has to be done to correct the imbalance.
Also contributing, the Paramount ruler of Tiv nation and Chairman of Benue Traditional Council, Professor, James Ayatse, the Tor-Tiv , the  V,  Commended parents of the Youths who staged a peaceful demonstration pressing home for enhanced quality of life and an end to SARS hashtagged #EndSARS.
He also reiterated the need for encouragement towards ensuring better welfare for a conducive atmosphere to flourish for all and sundry.
Former national Chairman People’s Democratic party,Chief Barnabas Gemade, Emphasized the importance for the Federal government to address the needs of the Youths with a view to finding amicable resolution and to avoid future occurrence of similar acts.
A one time vice Chancellor of Ahmad Bello university, Senator Daniel Saror, enjoined those in corridors of power to take proactive measures in addressing Youths restiveness,  pointing out that by so doing, they would have succeeded in solving mirage of complexity confronting the nation.
