The MINDA Strategic Contact Group, (MSCG), a socio-political organisation in Benue State has raised the alarm over  renewed  attacks on Benue communities and Nigeria in general, expressing concern over the nation’s dangerous slide towards a failed State.
At a media briefing in Makurdi, the state capital, the group comprising top flight political leaders and elites, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately arrest the situation.
A leader of the group, Dr Tivlumun Nyitse, who addressed the press on its position, enjoined President Buhari to eschew provincialism and be the president of all Nigerians so as to preserve, protect and enhance the unity of the country.
The group expressed worry over the Federal Government’s inability  to frontally tackle the atrocities being orchestred by suspected Fulani herdsmen which they said, had destroyed the unity of the country, and the negative reactions by the presidency to genuine calls by patriotic Nigerians for urgent action on issues raised.
“We pledged our stand with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and the entire Benue people in demanding that the President rises up to his duties to protect all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion. The over indulging in diatribe with sub-national governments “laden with hidden agenda” as precondition for peace in Benue or other states amounts to taking sides with the aggressors against other Nigerians”.
“The call by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu that Benue cooperates with the FG in implementing policies for peace and development was a demand to embrace RUGA, National Water Resources Bill, reintroduction of archaic cattle routes among others.
“We use this forum to tell President Buhari and other national leaders that Benue is under threat of annihilation by suspected Fulani herdsmen and bandits. We also use medium to sympathize with Governor Samuel Ortom over the gruesome murder of Internally Displaced Persons at Abagena and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book”
