Over 10, 000 birds have been wiped out in Plateau following an outbreak of bird flu, the state chapter of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), said on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the association, Mrs. Nanji Gambo, said in Jos, Plateau State capital that officials of the state and Federal ministries of Agriculture were going round farms within the state to cull affected birds.
She said the association had planned an awareness programme to sensitize farmers not to take people to their farms and to put foot deep systems at the entrances to farms.
”Farmers are already being sensitized on what to do to contain the spread”, she said, while assuring the public a steady supply of healthy poultry as the flu was being checked.
