A gang of armed men invaded the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State, abducting yet-to-be-ascertained number of students and lecturers, it was learnt early Friday.
A witness said the gunmen attacked the school located along the Zaria-Kaduna road at about midnight on Thursday, shooting at random to scare residents.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that at least one person was shot dead in the attack, while 10 persons including eight students and two lecturers were abducted.
This is not the first time the institution was being attacked. On Saturday, November 14, 2020, armed men invaded the staff quarters in the main campus of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and abducted the Head of Department of Computer Engineering, Bello Atiku, alongside two children of Sanusi Hassan, a staff attached to the registrar’s office that was shot by the invaders.
On the same day, it was bedlam at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, as armed men seized and held captive, Louis Ayuba and eight other students of the ABU French department. The nine ABU students regained freedom after payment of an unspecified sum of money as ransom on November 21, eight days after their abduction.
Malam Abdullahi Shehu, Public Relations Officer of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic has confirmed the latest incident, adding that management was trying to ascertain the exact number of people affected.
