Eteng Jonah-William, Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River of government’s support and improved welfare for corps members serving in the assembly.
Jonah-William gave the assurance when the State National Coordinator, Mr. Zemoh Andrew, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday in Calabar.
The Speaker said that the NYSC scheme had impacted positively on youths across the country, so the assembly would continue to partner with the corps to ensure the safety of the corps members serving in the assembly complex.
The member representing Boki II State Constituency, Mr. Hilary Bisong, said that the assembly had been consistent in the welfare of corps members.
Bisong, however, commended the Speaker on his commitment to the welfare of corps members serving in the assembly.
Earlier, Andrew explained that his visit was to familiarise himself with the House and seek more support for the improvement of corps members’ welfare.
He identified some of the needs of the scheme in the state to include renovation of the NYSC camp and the secretariat, as well as security for corps members during and after elections.
