Chinese National Found Dead In Abuja Apartment

A Chinese national identified as Li Lei, has been found dead at his rented apartment in Katampe, near Asokoro District of Abuja.

His lifeless body was reportedly discovered after his landlord, Ahmed Saheed, reportedly checked on him at about 10pm on Monday, June 21, when he was not seen throughout the day.

Lei was said to have been found lying unconscious in his apartment, prompting the landlord to report the development to the police at Mabushi Division of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command.

A witness said the Chinese who lived alone in the apartment, was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital by a team of policemen drafted to the scene, but was certified dead by a medical doctor.

It was learnt that his body was deposited at the morgue of the hospital for autopsy as the police commence investigation into what was described as a sudden and unnatural death (SUD).

A police source said preliminary examination of his body at the scene did not show any mark of violence, but the cause of his death had yet to be ascertained.

Reports said the Chinese Embassy in Abuja has been notified on the incident and efforts were ongoing to locate members of his family.
