An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abubakar Erubu, has advocated for a legislation compelling successive administrations in the country to complete capital projects inherited from previous governments.

Erubu made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin, on Sunday.

The cleric, who is based in Ibadan, said such a law, if enacted, would go a long way in checking wastage of resources and project abandonment.

He said if such enactment had been in place long ago, it would have addressed the deplorable state of roads in the country.

He commended the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for its stride in road construction across the country.

Erubu, however, called for the completion of the Ilorin-Ibadan Expressway, saying the project is long due for completion.

The Islamic scholar urged the Federal Government to concession all the newly constructed roads for timely maintenance.

Erubu also called on the government to subsidise the train fare from Lagos to Ibadan in order to increase patronage of the railway services.
