At least 4, 800 persons have taken the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine in Benue State, North Central Nigeria, two weeks after the commencement of vaccination of residents in the state.
Mrs. Nnguna Adingi, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said those who received the jab willingly offered to be vaccinated.
She said the figure represented 15 percent of the 73,000 doses of vaccine sent to the state by federal government.
Adingi noted that the vaccines have been sent to all the primary health care centers and General Hospitals across the state and urged members of the public to take advantage of the availability of the drugs and get vaccinated against the dreaded disease.
“So we expect people to go to their local government areas to be vaccinated and if you are resident in Makurdi, you can get the vaccines at the Benue State Teaching Hospital, Air Force Hospital and the General Hospital.
We have also banned street trading to further curtail community spreading. Henceforth, all streets traders should relocate to the Makurdi international market. Anyone find trading around streets of the state will be dealt with”.
