A Nigerian Army officer identified as Captain GMS Abubakar was shot dead by a gang of armed men at about 4.30pm on Monday July 6, while travelling along the Okene-Lokoja road.
Sources hinted Scudnews that after shooting the military officer whose destination could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, the yet-to-be-identified gunmen abducted his wife and mother who were travelling with him in a Honda Accord car bearing number plate FKJ 455 DQ, and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The armed men were said to have emerged from a bush near Mark’s Farm Hills along Okene-Lokoja road and forced the army captain who was driving the vehicle to a halt with sporadic gunshots, leaving him fatally injured.
It was learnt that a team of policemen who arrived the scene after the gunmen had seized and disappeared with Captain Abubakar’s wife and mother, met him with severe gunshot injuries and rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, where he was confirmed dead.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that his body was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy while detectives at the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the state police command have commenced a manhunt for the perpetrators.
“Detectives and tactical teams are working frantically to rescue the two women alive and arrest their abductors. We shall not rest until they are freed and the perpetrators arrested”, said a senior police officer at the command headquarters, who pleaded anonymity.
