It was a narrow escape for Asimawu Yusuf, a young woman whose joy and hope of tying the nuptial knots with a man of her dream on Saturday, November 28, almost crashed like a pack of cards.

For reasons which are yet to be determined, five of her relatives, including one of her sisters, Rabi Yusuf, became agents of the devil and worked against her wedding. They organized her abduction which was executed with precision two barely two weeks to her wedding.

On Tuesday, November 10, Asimawu, who lives on Olubojo Street, behind Fraldo Guest Inn, Ankpa, Kogi State, was kidnapped and whisked away to an unknown destination at the peak of preparations for her marriage ceremony. It was a sad and terrifying experience which momentarily shattered her dreams.

After executing the satanic act, Asimawu’s abductors were said to have contacted her family and eventually collected a ransom of N1.5million.

It was learnt that the victim’s heartthrob, popularly known as Alhaji Ita Global, was a successful businessman who was set to make the wedding memorable before the unexpected happened, setting tongues on who the perpetrators were and their motive.

But it did not take time before security operatives succeeded in resolving the puzzle. On Friday, November 20, the police said five suspects allegedly linked to the crime were picked up following a tip-off. The suspects were identified as Iliyasu Mohammed, Rabi Yusuf, Abdul Yahaya Suleiman, and Salifu Mohammed Suraju.

The police said preliminary investigation revealed that all the suspects are natives of Ankpa and relatives of Asimawu, who conspired with the son of a high ranking traditional ruler in the state ( names withheld by us), to commit the crime. The suspected prince, simply identified as Abdulazeez, is said to be at large.

It could however not be confirmed if the victim had been released from captivity after payment of ransom to perform her marriage ceremony slated for November 28, 2020.
