Three anti-robbery detectives at the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Kogi State police command headquarters in Lokoja, were among eight police officers killed by a gang of vicious armed robbers in an attack on a branch of First Bank of Nigeria last week Thursday, at Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Scudnews reliably learnt that the trio identified as Inspector Samson Mohammed, Sgt. Gbolahan Oyedeji and Sgt. Mudi Orilola, were on an undisclosed mission to Isanlu where they were felled by ferocious bullets of the robbers on the ill-fated day.
“It was indeed, a misfortune; the three anti-robbery operatives of the CID in Lokoja were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and were killed along with other policemen at the Isanlu Police Division”, a police source lamented.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who was killed during the attack on the station, was identified as Adebola Tajudeen, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Other victims all of whom were personnel at Isanlu Division, included W/Sgt. Charity Adeleke, W/Sgt. Remi Adeyanju, W/Pc. Aminat Yusuf and Sgt. Agojino Idoko.
A combined team of crack detectives, tactical and intelligence squads and operatives of the Federal Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) deployed to Kogi State in the aftermath of the incident by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, are said to be frantically searching for the robbers who reportedly attacked the bank and the police station with dynamites and AK-47 rifles simultaneously.
Efforts made at reaching the police authorities for comments on the incident were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls to the mobile telephone lines of the Police Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba and spokesperson for Kogi State police command, DSP Ovye Williams Aya, rang out unanswered.
