Failed Afghan Asylum Seekers Deported From Germany Arrive in Kabul

Deported Asylum Seekers arrive Kabul

 

A group of 30 rejected asylum seekers arrived in Kabul early on Thursday after being deported from Germany, officials from the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said.

The chartered flight landed at 7:35 am (0305 GMT), airport officials said.

It marked the 34th deportation flight from Germany to Afghanistan since December 2016.

A total of 937 failed asylum seekers have been sent back to Afghanistan since then.

The last deportation flight from Germany was in March.

Other European countries have also resumed deportation flights.

On Wednesday, a plane landed in Kabul with eleven migrants deported from Austria and Bulgaria.

The deportations have been deeply controversial, with critics saying the war-torn country is too dangerous to send asylum seekers back to.

Almost daily attacks from the Taliban and Islamic State militants are taking a toll on civilians in the country.

In spite the start of peace talks, the conflict between the Taliban and the Afghan government continues and the security situation is deteriorating.

There are regular clashes and targeted killings happening across the country, bomb and rocket attacks in the capital Kabul.

According to United Nations figures, only 300,000 people have been forced to flee conflict in Afghanistan this year.

In addition, the Coronavirus pandemic has further worsened Afghans’ living conditions.

The UN warns that 5 million more Afghans will be in need of help in 2021 due to the pandemic and conflict.(dpa)
