The vaccination of citizens against the dreaded Coronavirus has begun in Nigeria, with a family physician at the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Cyprian Ngon, receiving the first dose on Friday.
Â
Ngon’s immunization, which was followed by two other senior medical practitioners, came after the AstraZeneca vaccine was certified fit for use by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDC).
Â
The development sets the stage for the administration of 3.924 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which arrived the country on March 2 via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Â
Earlier, the Federal Government had launched a website for Nigerians to log on nphcda.gov.ng and register for the vaccination by clicking covid-19 vaccination e-registration.
