A section of the Delta State Police Command headquarters was gutted by fire on Thursday.
PUNCH reports that the fire started from the control room of the command around 2 pm and caused panic among police personnel and passersby and raised fear of possible attack as a roadblock was mounted at the headquarters two weeks ago.
The fire was said to have destroyed property worth millions of naira at the command headquarters.
It was learnt that the early arrival of personnel of the Federal Fire Service to extinguish the fire prevented it from escalating to other parts of the command headquarters.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and said the inferno was immediately extinguished.
Edafe stated, “Yes, there was fire but it only affected a section of the control room and has been extinguished. It was caused by an electrical fault and only affected a part of the control room. There is no fire without damage; a part of the room was damaged”.
It will be recalled that part of the car park and restaurant section of the command headquarters were razed a few weeks ago.
