Gov Masari Signs N286.6bn 2021 Budget Into Law

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Wednesday signed the state’s 2021 budget of N286.6 billion into law.

Masari, while assenting to the 2021 budget in Katsina, commended the State Assembly for its expeditious passage.

He assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to enhance their living condition and called for their continuos support.

The governor urged the people of the state to continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to bring an end to the security challenges bedeviling the state.

The governor had on November 18, presented an appropriation bill of N282.7 billion for the 2021 fiscal year, to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
The sum of N86.6 billion representing 30 percent of the budget was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N196.1 billion representing 70 percent was for capital spending.

Presenting the budget for the governor’s assent, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Tasiu Musa-Maigari, said the house increased the budget by N3.8 billion.

“After legislative processes like public hearing, discussions with stakeholders and Civil Society Organisations, as well as budget defence by MDAs, the budget was reviewed upward to the tune of N286.6 billion”.

Musa-Maigari said following the upward review of the budget, N197.1 billion representing 69.05 percent would go for capital expenditure, while the recurrent expenditure stood at N88.7 billion representing 35.9 percent.

He promised that the assembly would continue to work harmoniously with the executive arm to provide good governance to people of the state.

He urged the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) concerned with revenue collection to intensify efforts in enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The speaker pointed out that the boost in IGR would go a long way to help reduce the state government’s overdependence on the Federation Account to provide services to people.

Musa-Maigari, therefore, called on the people of the state to continue to pray for Almighty Allah to intervene in the insecurity bedeviling the state.
