Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formally resigned from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) after a protracted battle for the political soul of his state with his benefactor and national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomohle.
The development came few days after Obaseki was disqualified for seeking re-election for a second term on the platform of the APC on grounds of alleged defects in the educational certificates he presented for screening.
The governor, who had express lack of confidence in the processes of the gubernatorial primaries, has however, indicated his intention to pursue his political ambition and seek re-election on an alternative political platform.
Speculations are rife that Obaseki might contest the forthcoming polls in Edo State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
