A former Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Clement Uhembe, has been abducted by unknown gunmen from his resident in Lafia, the State Capital.
The incident occurred at about 8:30PM on Tuesday.
A source who do not want his name in print said the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the compound of the immediate past commissioner of Higher education, along Makurdi Road, Lafia and whisked him to an unknown destination.
Wife of the victim, Mrs. Amarya Uhembe who spoke to Journalists, said the abductors, numbering about ten, invaded their compound and broke into one of the apartments where her husband was resting after the day’s work and whisked him away.
“The gunmen came at about 8:30pm and started knocking forcefully at the door while my husband was in the inner room, I moved close to the door to see who was knocking only to discover that they were heavily armed men, when I noticed they were armed men, I quickly tried to close the door, shouting for help before my husband came to join me in the struggle to close the door, even as they were dragging to force themselves into the parlour my husband rushed to the door and we succeeded in closing it but the gunmen kept pushing until they succeeded in using some objects to break the door and wall to gain entrance”.
According to her the gunmen later allowed her husband to pick his mobile phone which they are now using to communicate with the family demanding for N30 million ransom.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Nasarawa State Police Command, Ramhan Nansel who confirmed the incident, said the police has already mobilized its men to do the needful in
