Director, Human Resources of the National Examination Council (NECO), Abdul Mustapha, has clarified that the Registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma, died in his sleep at his home in Minna, Niger State, as a result of heart failure.
 He had been reportedly strangled to death by armed men suspected to be assassins.
His wife, Elizabeth Obioma, confirmed the incident on Tuesday morning saying her husband had just returned to Minna from Abuja when the armed men attacked him.
Obioma, aged 67, was appointed head of NECO on May 14, 2020. The police had yet to speak on the incident.
His death came barely 48 hours after Ahmed Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was shot dead in Owerri, Imo State.
