Fresh facts have emerged on how the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Jibia, a border town in Katsina State was shot dead at close range by bandits in the early hours of Wednesday, February 9.

Security sources hinted Scudnews that the slain DPO, Abdulkadir Abubakar Rano, was aboard a military gun truck in company with a Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army simply identified as Lt. Masoyi when they ran into an ambush.

The duo had led joint military and police teams in response to a distress call when a gang of bandits invaded Magama Jibia community on the fringes of the border between Nigeria and Niger Republic at about 2.am.

It was learnt that while an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC, led the convoy of security operatives on the rescue mission, the late DPO was riding in a military gun truck with Lt. Masoyi, leader of the military detachment in the operation when they ran into a rain of bullets in an ambush.

Sadly, Rano, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, was felled by the ferocious gunfire by the bandits, while Lt. Masoyi reportedly sustained multiple injuries.

Sources said the wounded military officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, for treatment and the remains of the slain DPO was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
