Homicide detectives are puzzling over the circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old woman, Patience Christopher, who was allegedly murdered by her husband on Wednesday, June 9, in Akwa Ibom State.
After committing the macabre act, her husband, Enoch Christopher, betrayed no emotions, as he dug a shallow grave under the cover of darkness inside the compound where they reside at Ikot Abia village, Eket, Akwa Ibom State, and secretly buried his wife.
It was learnt that Christopher, who hails from Ebonyi State, had relocated to Akwa Ibom, where he lived with his wife before the bizarre incident occurred.
But the bubble burst seven days later after neigbours became suspicious of the wife’s sudden disappearance and his inability to offer convincing explanation on her whereabouts.
Following a report, detectives at the divisional police headquarters in Eket were said to have swiftly arrested Christopher on Wednesday, June 16, and upon interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing his wife.
“He has confessed to the crime. He said the wife died while he was beating her on June 9, 2021 and he had to bury her in a shallow grave inside the compound to conceal the act”, a police source told Scudnews on Friday in Uyo, the state capital.
He added that the body would be exhumed for autopsy in furtherance of police investigation.
