Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police and former Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Abba Kyari, may have three United States, US-based law firms on his defense team over his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on bribery allegations.
A pressure group, Concerned Advocates For Good Governance, CCGG, says it has consulted the US-based law firms to defend the embattled high profile cop.
Its President-General, Mr. Olusegun Bamgbose, said in a statement on Wednesday, that Kyari is presumed innocent of the allegations leveled against him until proven guilty.
He said the group contacted the US-based law firms to ensure justice for Kyari if eventually he was extradited to the US.
“We have diligently consulted with about three notable law firms in the United States to give us their legal opinions on what can be done to formidably defend Abba Kyari.
“One of the leading firms has replied us and gone ahead to send us the indictment against Abba Kyari and other details which is about 26 pages.
“The reputable law firm, well-grounded on extradition issues, has assured us of their readiness to represent Kyari’s interest before and after his possible extradition to the U.S,” he said.
Bamgbose added that while the group does not intend to cover up corruption, fairness and justice should not be denied an accused person, especially in matters of international concern.
Kyari was suspended from the Nigeria Police Force following fraud allegations against him by the FBI.
