Immigration Officer Shot Dead, 4 Injured In Clash With Soldiers

An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, was allegedly shot dead at the Kwanar Kyaware military checkpoint along Tsafe-Funtua road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Two other Immigration personnel and two soldiers sustained severe gunshot injuries resulting from a clash between soldiers at the checkpoint and a team of Immigration officers who were travelling from Abuja to Gusau, Zamfara State capital, on Thursday, July 4.

The Immigration officers led by CIS Yahaya Ladan Shinkafi, were said to have had a misunderstanding with soldiers at the military checkpoint, a situation that led to sporadic shooting allegedly by one of the soldiers.

It could not be immediately ascertained if the clash which occurred at about 2.pm degenerated to a gunfight between the Immigration personnel and the soldiers, but claimed the life of an Immigration officer and left four persons wounded.

The identities of the dead and injured could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Scudnews however learned that policemen who visited the scene evacuated the body of the deceased Immigration officer as well as those wounded to the General Hospital Tsafe for autopsy and treatment.

Reports indicated that the injured soldiers and Immigration officers were later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Gusau for further treatment.
