Revered czar of police operations, Tony Olofu, has been drafted to Anambra State to take charge ahead of the November 6 governorship election.
Olofu, a Commissioner of Police, was recently deployed by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to superintend over the state police command, in what was widely regarded as one of the IGP’s best moves.
He assumed duty on Friday, September 10, as the 31st Commissioner of Police in the state, replacing the erstwhile police chief, Mr. Chris Owolabi, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Olofu was until his redeployment, Director Operations and Intelligence, National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons at the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA in Abuja.
He was before then, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, a Strike Force at the Louis Edet House Police Force Headquarters.
As an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olofu was Area Commander, Kubwa, Abuja, and one time Commander, Operation Doo Akpo, a multi-agency anti-crime outfit set up by the Government of Bayelsa State.
When he was elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), he became the DC, Operations at the Ebonyi State police command and later, DC in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Bauchi State.
In preparation for attainment of strategic command positions, Olofu had attended several professional and staff courses including the Advanced Detective Course, Squadron Command Course, Tactical Leadership and Command Course and Strategic Leadership/Command Course, among others.
Prior to his enlistment as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, in March, 1990, Olofu obtained a Bachelor of Science, B.Sc.in Sociology from the University of Jos.
Sources at Police Force Headquarters, Abuja said in the line of duty, Olofu had displayed uncommon courage, command and control, as well as tact, wrapped with a firm, but humane disposition in the discharge of his assigned responsibilities.
Born in October, 1963, the adored police operational czar hails from Benue State.
