Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has approved the sale of fertilizer to farmers in the state’s 225 wards at N6,000 per 50kg bag, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Maigari Dakingari has announced.
Dakingari, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, on Monday, said a total of 112,500 bags of assorted fertilisers were available for sale to farmers in the 225 political wards in the state.
According to him, each ward had been allocated 500 bags of the commodity and would be promptly delivered, to facilitate production in the 2021 cropping season.
” The fertilises is for farming activities in the state and it is not to be sold or diverted outside of Kebbi state”, he warned, saying that anyone caught diverting the commodity would be dealt with.
“The governor has also approved the composition of the following stakeholders in each of the 21 local governments and their 225 wards, to achieve a successful and hitch-free sale of the product to those that are genuinely in need of it to foster sustainable agricultural development in the state,” Dakingari said.
He identified the stakeholders to include commissioners, members of the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen and the vice chairmen, who had been mandated to oversee the distribution of the commodity in each of the wards.
” Others include the various aides to the governor, permanent secretaries and representatives of emirate councils. Also included are, the Ulama, representatives of the farmers associations and officials of security agencies,” Dakingari added.
He said that the fertilizer had been deposited in depots and service centers in all the 21 local government areas and the wards in the state, ahead of the distribution.
