A 40-year-old man, Lanre Kazeem, allegedly committed suicide in the early hours of Sunday by hanging himself in his house at Eyin Grammar School area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
It was gathered that the deceased was living in a rented house and worked at a private palm kernel processing company around Soka Ibadan. The incident shocked residents as they expressed sadness over his sudden death.
Olugbenga Fadeyi, a Superintendent of Police (SP) and spokesperson for the Oyo State police command, confirmed the incident. He said that the deceased hung himself to death in his house and the corpse had been deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary in Ibadan.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Sanyo division had visited the scene to see what happened. Investigation has commenced on the matter to know what actually happened”.
A resident of the area hinted that the deceased hailed from Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, and had no known relative or friends all through his one year stay in the rented house.
The deceased, it was also learnt, left no suicide note that could give a clue on the cause of his action. Neighbors claimed he had been sick for close to two weeks without any medical care.
