A 35-year-old man reportedly committed suicide hours after defiling his neighbour’s teenage daughter.
Kayode Kolawole, who resided at Aro Street in Amukoko, Lagos, allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of Ayomide Kazeem, aged 16, daughter of his co-tenant on Tuesday, May 17.
Scudnews learnt that the distraught father, Kazeem Bello, promptly reported the incident to the police and detectives were detailed to apprehend the suspect who had momentarily disappeared from his apartment.
It could not be ascertained when he sneaked into his home in the wee hours of the night, but Kayode was said to have been found dead in his house on the next day, Wednesday, May 18.
His elder brother, Seyi Kolawole, who reported the shocking discovery to the police at about 3.pm, said Kayode drank a poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper –an insecticide, and died in his house to avoid the shame of his ignoble act.
“The police visited our compound, recovered the corpse and deposited it at a mortuary for autopsy”, a neighbour told Scudnews on Thursday, but pleaded that her name should not be mentioned.
A senior officer at the Lagos State police command headquarters, who confirmed the incident, said the case is under investigation.
