Man Dies in Fight Over Failure to Pay for Palm Wine After Drinking

A middle-aged man has allegedly died in a fight over palm wine debt at a drinking spot in Ikumtak community, Mbube, Cross Rivers State.

Sunday Ntim was said to have left his home at Udajie Mbube, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State, at about 7.20pm on Saturday, March 20, to drink palm wine at Ikumtak, a neighbouring community.

Sources hinted Scudnews that when he was done with taking the palm wine, he refused to settle the bill when requested, leading to a fight with the husband of the shop owner identified as Joseph Odey.

It was further learnt that after the fight, Sunday vomited blood and was rushed to the General Hospital, Ogoja, where he later died. His body was deposited for autopsy at the hospital morgue.

The police said following a report on the incident by the deceased’s brother, Dr. Steve Ntim, police operatives visited the scene and arrested the owner of the owner of the palm wine shop, Julie Ele, and her husband, Joseph, for investigation which is said to have commenced.
