Man orders shooting of 12-year-old son to test efficacy of charm

A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, after he was shot with a Dane gun on the instruction of his father and fatally injured.

The boy’s dad, Daniel Qudus, aged 43, a national of the Republic of Benin resident in Aba Oyo Olorunda community, Akobo Local Government Area of Oyo State, was said to have requested one Akinyemi Akinlolu, aged 44, to fire gunshots at his son laced with a bullet proof charm to test the efficacy of his newly acquired bullet repellant.

Scudnews however, learnt that the Qudus was disappointed and apprehensive when the shots hit and critically injured his son, who was rushed to the UCH Ibadan, for treatment.

Sources said the police at Akobo Division promptly arrested and detained the victim’s father and Akinlolu, who fired the shots for interrogation. The gun used in committing the act has also been recovered.

It was further learnt that the two suspects in police custody and the exhibit were transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Oyo State police command on Wednesday, June 24.

Neither the Oyo State police commissioner, Mr. Chuks Enwonwu, nor the Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, could be reached for comments at the time of filing this report as both were said to be on an official engagement outside Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday afternoon, but a senior police officer who pleaded anonymity confirmed the incident.
