Mohammed Hussaini, chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has been shot dead by suspected bandits, the state police command said on Saturday.
The police said Hussaini was murdered at about 7.30pm on Friday at Garaku market in Kokona Local Government Area of the state, while in a meeting with the association’s chairman in Toto Local Government Area of the State, Mohammed Umar.
Ramhan Nansel, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and spokesperson for the state police command, disclosed the development in a statement in Lafia, the state capital.
He said the gunmen stormed the venue where the MACBAN officials were meeting in an unregistered Toyota Hilux van and pumped bullets on the head and chest of Hussaini, before shooting Mohammed as he attempted to flee the scene.
Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bola Longe, swiftly deployed Operation Puff Adder 11 personnel to the scene where the two corpses were recovered and deposited at Anthony Memorial Hospital mortuary after being confirmed dead by a medical doctor”, Nansel said.
While soliciting for information from members of the public to assist in its investigation into the crime, the police assured that the perpetrators would be uncovered and made to face the law.
