The Federal Government has been urged to provide incentives for National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members deployed in rural areas especially riverside communities, to alleviate their sufferings.

Labour Party candidate for Delta State House of Assembly Bomadi Constituency in the forthcoming election, Engr. Poweide Foburuku, made the appeal during his consultative visit to Okoloba community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said incentives should be provided to encourage them as most riverside communities lack social amenities such as electricity, good means of transportation, health facilities,  Corpers’ lodge and good drinking water.

Foburuku pointed out that under such conditions, Corps members spend their monthly allowances on transportation to their CDS centres and other issues associated with underdevelopment in coastal communities.

He enjoined the NYSC authorities to provide life jackets for safety, and a speedboat at every LGI offices that would enable the Local Government Inspector in NYSC office monitor the welfare of corpers serving in riverside communities.

While donating raincoats and rain-boots to encourage and motivate the corpers serving in Okoloba community, Foburuku however commended the NYSC for deploying corpers to every nook and cranny of the country.

He admonished the corpers to live up to their responsibilities by discharging their duties with diligence, loyalty, honesty.

Foburuku urged them to exercise their franchise as leaders of tomorrow in the forthcoming 2023 elections by voting their choice candidates.

Responding on behalf of the corpers, Mr. Bassy Okon thanked Foburuku for the gesture which according to him was timely, and promised to be guided by the oath of allegiance which they had sworn to uphold.

He appealed to Federal Government to workout modalities on how Youth Corp members could be given a measure of comfort wherever they found themselves.
