The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed food items to no fewer than 908 disaster victims in two Local Government Areas of Anambra State.

Maj. James Eze, the Enugu Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, handed over the items to the beneficiaries on Monday in Awka.

Eze said the Federal Government approved relief assistance through NEMA to persons affected by flood and windstorms in the state.

He said the items were for the affected persons in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Areas.

Items distributed were rice, beans, garri, tomato paste, vegetable oil, salt, seasonings, mosquito nets, and blankets.

The coordinator said that NEMA had come to do direct distribution of the items to the beneficiaries in line with the directive of the federal government.

He advised the people to always plant trees and leave grasses on the earth’s surface to serve as windbreakers and flood control measures.

The zonal coordinator reiterated the federal government’s readiness to always come to the aid of disaster victims in times of need.

Mr. Chinedu Onwuaso, a member representing Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, thanked the federal government for responding to his call to assist his people who were in need.

He said some communities in the constituency were ravaged by flood, embroiled in inter-communal fights while others had not been able to go to farms due to threats from herdsmen.
