Following the commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary on October 1, a religious leader, Pastor John Suberu, on Wednesday in Abuja called on separatists to have a rethink.

The cleric made the call reaching out to some vulnerable and less-privileged children as part of activities to mark his 39th birthday.

According to Suberu, Nigeria is better as a united entity, and instead of calling for its disintegration, all hands should be on deck to make the country the envy of other nations.

The cleric, founder of Touch for Recovery Outreach International, said as a pastor, it was his responsibility to constantly pray for the continued unity of the country.

He said he was also obligated to pray for and reach out to the less privileged in order to instill hope in them and assure them that the country had not forgotten them.

Suberu added that he decided to mark his birthday with the less-privileged as his little way of giving back to society.

“This gathering is to celebrate my birthday and give alms to the needy like we do any other day but this year it calls for sober reflection on the unbearable condition that Nigerians go through on daily basis.

“I know how expensive things are in the markets; I wish I can reach out to everyone in need to show how concerned I am.

“Since I cannot reach everybody, I pray for you and for Nigeria daily for it to be better and that everyone will have a good life,’’ the cleric said.

He called on the government to tackle all obstacles responsible for the high cost of food items.

He also implored the citizens to remain law-abiding and not take laws into their hands and urged the government to embark on vulnerability assessment to check areas of possible threats to the people.

Suberu commended the current administration for infrastructural development across the country in spite of hiccups in the global economic conditions.

While assuring the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of the churches continued support through prayers, he advocated for intervention for vulnerable people in the society in order to improve their conditions of living.

The cleric reiterated the fact that the Coronavirus was still very much around and urged Nigerians to sustain prayers for leaders and for God to heal the land of the pandemic.
