The Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has given hints that the Nation’s land borders will soon be reopened.
She said this at the State House on Wednesday as she said the land border which has been closed since August 2019 may be opened soon as a presidential committee set up on the matter has completed its job and has recommended the reopening of the borders.
She said the committee would soon submit its report to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), following which a formal pronouncement is expected to be made on the matter.
The minister could not disclose when the report will be submitted and how soon the land borders are to be reopened.
Nigeria had in August 2019 closed its land borders in order to curtail the then rising spate of illegal importation of drugs, small arms and agricultural products into the country from neighbouring West African nations.
