Occupants of Moving Bus Drop Carton Containing 471 Cartridges Near Police Checkpoint In Anambra To Evade Arrest

A team of mobile policemen on stop and search along the Onitsha-Owerri road in Anambra State made a shocking find at about noon on Sunday, December 12 when they recovered 471 cartridges in a carton close to their checkpoint.

The operatives of the Police Mobile Force, PMF 29 Squadron attached to Oraifite Police Area Command in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state had reportedly sighted a carton which fell off from a moving 18-seater Nissan bus which was approaching their checkpoint.

A witness said shortly after the carton fell, about two passengers jumped down from the bus under the pretence of going to pick it but eventually took to their heels and disappeared.

Scudnews learnt that the policemen who had apparently become suspicious moved immediately to recover the carton and discovered it contained 471 cartridges.   

Consequently, the bus driver identified as Francis Uzoka was promptly arrested alongside other suspects, for investigation.

A police source who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that the driver of the bus with number plate ACA 815 ZW, 56-year-old Uzoka who hails from Oguta 1 in Imo State, denied knowledge of the deadly weapon upon interrogation.

The police said investigation was in progress.
