Catherine Anene, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP,and spokesperson for the state police command, said in a statement that a police team on routine patrol encountered armed robbers in military and police uniforms, while robbing commuters of their belongings.
On sighting the police, the robbers were said to have opened fire but were subdued by the superior fire-power of the police, resulting in their scampering into the bush while one was shot.
“One of the robbers sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead. Corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue while investigation is still in progress”, part of the statement read.
