An Inspector of Police, Daniel Aruga, has shot himself to death in Abuja.
The reason for his action had yet to be ascertained, but the police said Aruga who was attached to the Special Protection Unit, SPU Base 7, Abuja, was posted to a beat at No. 48 Mike Akhigbe Street in the Jabi District of the nation’s capital city where he killed himself.
The officer reportedly shot himself at his lower jaw with his rifle pointed up and died on the spot.
It was learnt that his corpse was evacuated and deposited at the Asokoro District Hospital morgue by a team of police operatives drafted to the scene from the Utako Division of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT police command following a distress call.
The deceased officer’s AK47 rifle with breech number 0985 and a magazine containing 29 rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the scene by the police, according to a report.
The police described the incident which occurred at about 5pm on Monday, August 15, as a case of suspected suicide.
