Police Officer Offers AK-47 Rifle, 60 Rounds Of Ammunition To Fake Military Officer For Photo Session, Arrested

A Police Sergeant, Osigwa Patrick, has landed in trouble after he gave his Ak-47 service rifle to a suspected fake military officer, Thomas Chinemerem Asogwa, to pose for photographs.

Patrick, who is attached to the Department of Operations, DOPs, of the Enugu State police command, is telling detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) his relationship with Asogwa and the motive for offering him his service rifle.

He was said to be on special duty at the University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka, when he released his rifle to the suspected fake military officer.

Scudnews learnt that trouble started for the cop when Asogwa, aged 25, was arrested by a team of police operatives on patrol at Nsukka area at about 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 1.

He was allegedly found with a brown bag containing combat Army uniform, Army coloured T-shirt, Army cap, a Nigerian Air Force Identity Card, a cardigan, and his photographs in Army uniform clutching an AK-47 rifle.

Police sources at the Enugu State command headquarters told Scudnews that upon his arrest, Asogwa, who hails from Igugu community in Udenu Local Government Area of the state, confessed to have got the weapon with which he posed for photographs from a police officer.

He allegedly said Sergeant Patrick with Force Number 502722 gave him the AK-47 rifle breach number 19143 containing 60 rounds ammunition to pose for photographs in military uniform.

His confession reportedly led to the arrest of the police officer and both are currently under interrogation in custody at the SCID headquarters in Enugu, according to a senior police officer who pleaded anonymity.

He said investigation was in progress.
