A police officer on a rescue mission who removed his uniform and fled from engaging bandits to hide in a bush has misplaced his rifle and landed in trouble.

Sergeant Mohammed Musa, a mobile policeman with Force number 4514118 attached to the No. 62 Squadron of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, was said to be among operatives in a police patrol team drafted in response to a distress call to flush out a gang of bandits.https://scudnewsng.com

It was learnt that the bandits had blocked the Birnin Gwari road close to Zankoro village in Chikun Local Government Area of the state at about 5.pm on Monday, June 28, shooting at moving vehicles in a bid to force motorists to a halt.

Reports indicated that the police operatives including Sgt Musa were swiftly mobilized to the scene, but it was not clear if the cops engaged the bandits in a gunfight before he fled into a bush.

As he fled, Musa was said to have removed his uniform and wrapped his rifle, which he hid at a spot in the bush before sneaking to another area for cover while the attack by the bandits on motorists lasted.

However, when the bandits eventually left the scene, he reportedly went alongside other members of the patrol team to pick his rifle from where he hid it but could no longer locate the spot.

A source close to the Buruku Police Division in Chikun Local Government Area of the state hinted Scudnews that following the development, teams of mobile and conventional policemen were moved to the area for bush combing in a fruitless search of the rifle.

Confirming the incident, a senior police officer at the state police command headquarters who craved anonymity, disclosed that the erring cop was already undergoing disciplinary procedure while investigation has commenced.

He said Musa claimed he couldn’t fire the rifle as it suddenly got stuck, and had to wrap it with his uniform before hiding it in a bush to avoid being identified by the bandits.
