A swimming exercise during an excursion by pupils of CleverField School in the Apo District of Abuja ended in disaster as a pupil aged six, died while swimming in a hotel pool.
Blossom Bassey, a Primary One pupil reportedly became unconscious while swimming in a pool at Ibeto Hotel in the Durumi area of the nation’s capital city and was rushed to Cedar Crest Hospital Abuja where a doctor confirmed he was dead on arrival.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at about 2.30pm and reported Durumi Division of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command by the proprietress of the school, Mrs. Adetoro Okie at about 10.30pm.
Sources said the body of the pupil has been deposited at the morgue of the National Hospital, Abuja for autopsy.
A teacher who took the pupils on excursion to the hotel and the swimming instructor have been arrested by the police as investigation into the incident commences, it was learnt on Wednesday, March 6.
