Nigerian super star, singer Tiwa Savage has set the standard for a female spin on the current male dominated Afrobeat scene with her new sound.
Tiwa who recently, released her latest single, Dangerous Love from her 4th upcoming album Celia made this known in an exclusive interview.
Revealing what production on the upcoming album would be, she said “The sound is so different, it’s a vibe, I feel like I’ve paid my dues enough, I definitely did not want to follow any type of trend, because I want to do what is in my heart, i wanna set my own trend. I’m an R and B lover but i’m also a very soulful person at heart but I love Afrobeat and that’s what this album is about. I don’t care what is going on anywhere else, I don’t care about what this artist is doing; i’m so confident in my music now, I just feel like it has its own sound, and it sounds like nothing else, yeah this is me, unapologetic.
We have so many amazing male African artist across Africa like Sarkodie, Nasty C, Diamond Platinum, Wizkid, Davido, Burna boy everybody, they are amazing and they sing Afrobeat from a male perspective and we love it but i’m like listen they are some things that I need to put on some Afrobeat that my girls are going to be like what!! I want to show a vulnerable side, I want to go to concert and girls are singing their hearts out because they have been through these emotions but its still on afro beat I want to sing songs that make girls feel sexy, essential or make them wanna be a Boss but also vulnerable like we need to speak, our story needs to be told somehow” Tiwa said.
On what she has been up to since the lockdown, the Universal music artist said “I haven’t really been doing anything creatively, one is because I have finished my project in the earlier part of the year and two it really was a time for me to get to know myself, I really wouldn’t have had this opportunity because it would have been an album and then tour…I’ve never had this amount of time to just look into myself, get to know myself, love myself and you know, and be really clear about what my vision is; and be confident in my skin and also just spending time with family, so it has been very interesting for me to be at home but good for me to look inwards” she added.
With numerous classics, hits and three albums to her name, Tiwa Savage was selected as the best African artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards beating Davido, Fally Ipupa and Shekhinah.
