United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) country representatives have presented a draft bill for a law to institutionalise the Peace Agency in Benue State to the Benue House of Assembly.
The draft bill was presented to the assembly on Wednesday during a courtesy visit on the Speaker, Mr. Titus Uba by the UNDP representatives.
Presenting the bill on behalf of the team, the UNDP focal person, Mr. William Zuma, commended the efforts of the state assembly towards ensuring peace in Benue.
Zuma pointed out that UNDP decided to embark on numerous programmes in Benue because it was the hub of the region, saying that Benue would also become one of the leading states in peace initiatives if the peace agency is established.
He explained that the draft bill was developed by UNDP to foster peaceful coexistence in Benue and beyond.
The UNDP lead person, therefore, appealed to the speaker to quicken the passage of the bill for the creation of a conducive environment for peace in Benue.
Receiving copies of the bill, Uba commended UNDP for their constant intervention in the state, saying that they have greatly promoted peace in Benue.
The speaker promised that the assembly would look into the bill and do justice to it as soon as possible.
