UPDATE! Bawa Is Substantive Chairman of EFCC

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a new chairman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He is Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, whose name has been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

 

In a letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, the president said acted in accordance with Paragraph 2(3) of Part1, CAP E1 of EFCC Act, 2004.

Bawa, aged 40, is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in investigation and prosecution of advanced fee fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundering as well as other economic crimes, and holds a B.Sc. degree in Economics and Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy.

He has undergone several specialized trainings in different parts of the world and was one of the pioneer EFCC cadet officers in 2005, according to a statement by the Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina.

Recall that Muhammed Umar Abba, the Director of Operations of the EFCC, had acted as the Commission’s chair since the suspension and subsequent sack of the erstwhile chairman, Ibrahim Magu by President Buhari on July 7, 2020.
